Is Long Tail Pro A Scam? – Read My Honest Review
Long Tail Pro Review:
Name: Long Tail Pro
Make Money Bay Rank: 75 out of 100
What Is Long Tail Pro?
Long Tail Pro is a keyword research tool designed to suggest keyword ideas. Like any other keyword tool, when you type a word it generates other similar keywords.
It’s safe to say that Long Tail Pro is not a scam. It’s a legit keyword tool with many thousand users. You can see on the home page that the testimonials are well-known online marketers. However, we cannot overlook the high yearly payment that is required to get started.
To figure out if it’s worth the money to get started, we need to see how it can help you and if there are any other better alternatives.
As a tool, it generates hundreds of similar keywords which you can use to create content or find niche ideas. Every keyword has some available metrics like traffic and competition.
Most users of Long Tail Pro are interested in finding long tail keywords with low competition. Every search can give you up to 400 keywords.
However, the competition metrics are based on off-page ranking factors and it does not count the content which is the most important SEO factor these days.
So, you need to make manually the most work. When you find an interesting keyword, it shows you the results of the first page of Google and some off-page metrics (Majestic stats and backlinks). Next, you must visit the sites to check the content by yourself.
Lastly, it includes some videos with basic guides to help beginners who have bought the product to get started online. While it gives you some guidelines, Long Tail Pro is not a making money program or a training for beginners.
- Generates hundreds of long tail keywords in seconds
- You do not need to download a software
- It has a free trial
- Guides and videos for beginners
- Good reputation
- It’s expensive to get started as you need to pay a yearly membership
- Competition is based on off-page ranking factors
- I do not recommend the Long Tail Bootcamp
Is Long Tail Pro For You?
The main focus of Long Tail Pro is to generate hundreds of keywords on every search. You can also add some filters to narrow down the list and watch the video tutorials to learn how it works.
If you want quantity and fast results, Long Tail Pro is a nice tool to work with.
It would be great for SEO freelancers, webmasters with multiple projects, keyword research gigs and any other professional who needs to complete many projects daily.
However, if you want quality, I do not think that it’s the best option. For example, if you build a new website and have some content ideas, I don’t think that Long Tail Pro can help you for the following reasons:
- With a new website, your backlinks and the Majestic metrics are on zero.
- It does not dig deeper on a keyword to figure out less competitive keyphrases.
- You need to check the content of your competitors (there is a relevant guide on the training).
How can you determine the competition?
You need to check the number of your competitors for the specific keyword. I have found keywords with less than 30 competitors and some times even less than 10. Yes, my site is on the first page of Google for many different low competition keywords.
Then, you need to check the content of your competitors. Google focuses highly on ranking factors like:
- Content relevancy
- Content length
- Engaging content
You will not outrank a website with a 3000-word relevant content and engagement no matter what are your off-page ranking factors.
For the above reasons, I do not think that Long Tail Pro is for beginners affiliates and new websites. As an alternative, I would suggest Jaaxy. It’s the keyword tool I use with very good results.
Metrics, Tools, and Training – How To Use Long Tail Pro
To search for keyword ideas, you need to create a new project. Next, you can search for one or multiple keywords. There are some options if you want to exclude some results and narrow down your research.
For example, I typed the keyword lose weight and you can see the results on the image below:
Avg. KC: A metric that calculates the competitions based on different ranking factors like the age of the domain, backlinks, Majestic metrics and page title.
Volume: The average number of searches per month for the specific keyword.
Bid: Suggested advertiser bid
Rank Value: An estimation of how much you will earn per month if you get ranked on the first page of Google for the specific keyword. The estimation is based on Google AdWords but you can customize it.
When you click on a keyword, you will see the ten first results of Google:
As I mentioned above, most of these metrics are based on the off-page SEO performance of your competitors and their backlinks. I would focus more on the quality of the content. If I would like to avoid authority sites, I would just check the domain authority of my competition. There are many free tools to check domain and page authority and you can find them with a simple Google search.
Rank Tracker: It is a helpful tool that keeps track of your rankings on Google.
Training: Long Tail Bootcamp and Long Tail University
Long Tail Bootcamp includes 14 videos with training on keyword research, niche research, and website building (WordPress, SEO, outsourcing, etc.). Long tail University has guides on video and article format. There are 15 lessons, five webinars, and one more bonus video.
Overall, the training is good and has enough information to get started. It focuses on SEO through keyword research and linkbuilding techniques. Almost 1/3 of the advanced lessons includes lessons that are guides about guest posts, infographics, broken link technique, and roundups.
These lessons and the keyword tool are based on a linkbuilding business model.
The fact is that many online marketers earn money and have built successful websites in this way. However, I would not recommend starting building backlinks as it requires a lot of time and money.
I prefer to spend that time creating content for my site. If you create quality content consistently and target low competition keywords, you can expect better results than hoping to get backlinks. Yes, you do not have to build backlinks to get ranked on the first page of Google for low competition keywords.
It’s important to understand that the metrics of Long Tail Pro makes sense if you follow a business model like the one on the lessons.
Is Long Tail Pro Worth The Price?
Well, it depends on what you want to do. If you already have an online business that requires keyword research on a daily basis, Long Tail Pro is a good investment. It’s only $24.75 per month.
For those who want to get started online or own a new website, $297 at once can be quite expensive. There is a free trial to test the tool but I am not sure that seven days are enough for a beginner to figure out everything.
To make it simple for you:
If you are willing to commit for the next 12 months and you will work with the business model that is recommended from Long Tail Bootcamp, it’s okay to pay the yearly membership.
You will get many keyword ideas for your site, and you can build multiple sites as well if you have a budget to spend.
For those who cannot afford it or they are not sure what business to build, there are other ways to get started too. For a keyword tool with free searches and a monthly fee, you can try Jaaxy.
If you are looking for a proven business model with a free membership, check Wealthy Affiliate which includes a keyword tool and hosting with the monthly membership.
My Final Verdict – Is Long Tail Pro A Scam?
While it’s not the best option out there, it’s a legit keyword tool which can help with your keyword research.
The decision to buy it or not depends on what you are looking for. I have seen many Fiverr gigs to sell keyword research services and they just give on their clients results from Long Tail Pro. So, there are many ways to use this tool.
The best way to start with Long Tail Pro is by starting for free and later, you can decide if you want to buy it.
